When Casey and Aaron, a lovely couple from Birmingham, Alabama, came to me with the idea of eloping, I knew we were about to embark on something super special.
It was a second marriage for both of them, and they wanted an experience that was super romantic, over the top, and—most importantly—different from the traditional wedding. No big ceremony, no white dress—been there, done that! They envisioned something unique and unforgettable.
What is an Elopement? Why PICK AN ELOPEMENT?
Elopements are all about intimacy, adventure, and doing things your way. They strip away the stress and pressure of traditional weddings and allow couples to focus on what truly matters—their love story. Unlike big weddings with long guest lists and endless details to manage, elopements are intimate, stress-free, and full of meaning. Whether it’s just the two of you or a handful of your nearest and dearest, an elopement is about celebrating your love in a way that feels authentic and personal.
The Perfect Elopement Setting: A Hidden Gem in the Dolomites
Initially, they had their sights set on Scotland—moody, atmospheric, and totally dreamy. But when I heard they also wanted to do a trip to Italy, I immediately said, 'Why not the Dolomites?' And just like that, everything clicked.
We planned an incredible itinerary starting in Florence, leading to their super romantic Dolomites elopement, and ending in the magical canals of Venice. It was an itinerary crafted to perfection, with their love story at the heart of it all.
For Casey and Aaron, we secured an exclusive spot within the Dolomites Park, partnering with the super cute Chalet Solaris. Nestled in the heart of the mountains, this intimate location featured a charming cabin, typically used for private events and catering. It was the perfect setting for their dream ceremony.
We Were in the Mountains—Weather Was Everything!
With no backup plan for inclement weather, we were placing all our hopes on Mother Nature—and she didn’t disappoint. The crisp mountain air and breathtaking views provided the ultimate romantic backdrop.
The Logistics: Gondolas, Music & Open Fire Feasts
Getting to the ceremony location was an adventure in itself. The only access was via a scenic gondola ride, which added a touch of excitement and exclusivity to the day. Time was of the essence, with everything needing to run seamlessly within the gondola schedule.
To complement the setting, and with no power to plug in, we brought in [band name], a super talented duo who specialize in acoustic performances. As seasoned buskers, they were well-prepared, creating an intimate atmosphere without the need for traditional power sources.
The culinary experience was equally unforgettable. Cocoon Cellar, the restaurant at Chalet Solaris, crafted an incredible feast entirely over an open fire, elevating the rustic mountain vibe. Even without basic amenities like restrooms—yes, no porta-potties in sight—Casey and Aaron were all in. They wanted a raw, authentic experience, and they fully embraced it.
The Gold Dress
Ok, we need to hold space for the dress. Casey's fashion choice was nothing short of spectacular. Eschewing the traditional white gown, she opted for a breathtaking gold dress—because why not go all out?—making a bold statement that perfectly reflected her personality and their vision for the day. The golden hues glowed against the dramatic mountain landscape, making every moment we captured, a total dream. Obsessed.
The Most Romantic Thing I've Ever Planned
The symbolic ceremony was led by a celebrant I frequently collaborate with, who traveled all the way from Greece to officiate. It was an incredibly moving moment, filled with heartfelt vows and tears of joy.
Behind the Scenes: A Freezing Yet Fabulous Photoshoot
Before the elopement, we arranged a pre-wedding photoshoot in the mountains. What the photos don’t show is just how freezing it was! Despite the chilly temperatures, Casey and Aaron were absolute rock stars. Casey braved the cold in her sleeveless gown, with our team rushing in between shots to wrap her up and keep her warm. Her confidence and grace in front of the camera made it all look effortless—and super cute.
